Care guide
Keeping Micromussa in a reef tank
This is the coral the hobby spent two decades calling Acanthastrea lordhowensis, or simply 'acan lord', before it was formally moved to Micromussa. The reclassification changed nothing about its care: it remains a fleshy, heavily fed LPS that adds new mouths around the colony margin and rewards regular target feeding with both growth and colour.
Lighting for Micromussa Ultra Frag
Low to moderate light produces the best colour. Under high intensity the fleshy tissue pales and pulls back tight against the skeleton, hiding the pigment banding that makes the genus worth keeping. This particular frag is rated for medium light — roughly 100–200 PAR, around the middle of the rockwork.
Water flow
Low, indirect flow. The tissue is soft and inflates substantially when settled, and direct current both prevents that inflation and risks tearing the flesh against the skeleton beneath. Flow for this frag should be gentle and indirect.
Placement and tank mates
Lower rockwork or sand bed. Peaceful.
What to watch for
The fleshy tissue is vulnerable to physical damage and to being outcompeted at the margins. Keep a clear border around the colony, and if the tissue recedes from one edge check for a neighbour's sweepers before assuming a water quality problem.
